Horizontal Chop
A block of wood is secured horizontally and chopped between the competitors feet. There are two forms of this event: Hard and Speed. In a hard chop the count of each time the competitor puts their axe to the block is counted, the competitor with the least amount of hits wins. In a speed chop the amount of time the competitor takes to break their block is taken, the fastest wins. This is a men's and women's event. This event simulates the bucking of logs in traditional timber harvesting.
Vertical Chop
A block of wood is secured vertically and chopped by the competitor. There are two forms of this event: Hard and Speed. In a speed chop the amount of time the competitor takes to break their block is taken, the fastest wins. This is a men's and women's event. This event simulates the falling of trees in traditional timber harvesting.
Axe Throw
A double headed axe is thrown at a target from 20 feet. The target is set up in concentric rings, the bulls eye is five points the next one out is four and so forth to the one point ring. The competitor gets 3 throws, for a possible total of 15 points. The individuals with the most points place, a throw off between high scores may be needed to break point ties. At some events there is an addition version of axe throw, team axe throw, where two competitors throw their axes at the same time and the same target for 3 throws and a possible 30 points. This is a men's and women's event. This event was started in logging camps as a way of passing the time and gambling.
Caber
This event is similar to the Scottish Games. A large log (caber) is lifted and tossed as far as possible. The person to throw it the furthest wins this event. This is a men's and women's event. The size and shape of the caber is veritable depending on the show, but most shows have a smaller caber for women.
Pulp Toss
This event simulates stacking firewood, 4 pieces of wood of varying size are tossed between a male and female competitor. If a piece of wood lands between the two posts opposite the throwing competitor a point is scored, if all 4 pieces land within the space in one turn 5 points is scored. The normal number of points to reach is 21; this is a timed event, the fastest team of competitors wins. This is a combined sex event.
Obstacle Pole (OP)
The Competitor starts with their hand on the end of a log balanced on a large log. When start is called they run around the log, up the log, and using a chainsaw, saw the tip of the log off, turn off their saw and run as fast as possible down the log and back to the starting position for a time. This is a Men's and Women's event.
Stock Saw
Using a stock style chain saw the Competitor saws either a single down cut, and up then down cut or a matched cut through a log for time. This is a Men's and Women's event.
Double Buck
A pair of competitors, either same sex for double buck or opposite sex jack and jill, use a traditional peg and racker saw to saw through a log for time. Team events male and female.
Single Buck
The Competitor saws through a log using a traditional peg and racker saw. The fastest person wins. This is a Men's and Women's event.
Chocker
This event simulates a job still held in modern forestry, chocker setting. An obstacle course, the components of which are unique to each competition site, is set up in which the competitor has to run over things such as log pyrimids and sea-saws, and through things like coverts to collect their chocker, a large steel cable, and return back the same way they came. Upon reaching the end of the run the competitor sets the chocker, locking an end into the bell, and reaches the mark to end the time. This is a men's and women's event. This event is based on speed the fastest to complete the course takes first place. The obstacles of the course represent the obstacles a chocker setter would face in the woods.
Burling
The contestant runs on a rolling log in the water against an opposing team's member. The first one to fall off looses. Best 2 out of 3. This is a Men's and Women's event. Costumes score style points...doesn't help us win...but we promise to make catcalls.
PV Log Roll
A team event, two contestants roll a large log across a given area between two posts and then back between the starting posts for a time. The fastest team wins. This is a male and female team event.
Pole Climb
This event requires the contestant to climb up a pole as fast as possible, the fastest climber wins. This s a Men's and Women's Event. This event simulates the process of getting to the top of a tree for tree-topping. Women climb 35 feet, Men climb 60.
Limber Pole
A thin log is suspended over a pond, and hashed off ever given number of feet. The object of this event is to balance your way to the very end without falling in. Every hash mark you cross is a "point" and the person who goes the furthest or gets the most "points" in each sex class wins. This is a men's and women's event. This event is a must participate for new members, always a good time and a good laugh.
